I Saw God Through ‘Useless’ Archaelogy
Sometime last week, I encountered a YouTube Channel that so blew my mind that I spent over four unscheduled hours hypnotised by its videos. The channel – EXPEDITION BIBLE presents archaeological evidence of Biblical events and occurrences.
I was wowed as I watched episodes on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, on the Canaanites high places where the remains of sacrificed children have been unearthed in different horrific states (some even sawn in half). Remember the worshippers of Molech in the Old Testament that God warned the Israelites to not even think about copying their practices? Exactly!
Joel Kramer, the owner of the channel, conducted the Test of a Prophet between Biblical prophets and Mormon Prophet as if he knew the disturbance in my spirit since January about that ministry. I even saw the crumbled walls of Jericho etc.
I tell you now: that channel was the main reason why I was still writing an assignment at 3 am.
Perhaps I was more struck because I had never rated archaeology as a profession. For me, they were these inferior humans JAMB forced to wear pink shirts on the same days we wore our blue shirts to class during my undergraduate years in UNN. We shared faculty building and I always wondered what they wanted to achieve with such a course. Well, I tell you now that it can be a lot!
I also realized that while I was reading the scriptures all these while, some persons were READING the scriptures! These guys wielded it like a compass and other times as simply history. I have so much more respect for my Bible now. I have always had faith but there’s something different that happens to your heart when you see the actual evidence of God’s dealings with man on the earth.
Another key takeaway was through the life of Joel Kramer. I realized that God can and would love to use all the different fields of study known to man to reveal more about himself to us. I have often encountered God’s mind concerning my writing and dramatic endeavors and it struck me that it must be the same with Christians in other fields.
So what do you do? Where do you work?
Have you encountered the God of Fashion? God of design? The Great Physician? God the teacher? Perhaps the God of Public Relations, God of Education, God of the Media, Psychology, Pharmacy, Economics, Anthropology, Astrology… I could go on and on.
How can God reveal himself to man through what you are currently handling? Don’t limit him!
