An Eavesdropper at God’s Door

I was heading home from work some minutes ago when I came across a live interview session in God’s office. The lady’s voice held such a strange high tilt to it that I was compelled to cautiously lean on the door as I tied my heels together.

Reporter: I actually mean, your most exciting thing to do? Like the top of your list.

God: Yes, I understood your question- to show mercy.

Reporter: Okay, okay. Then what do you do to relax, and take the edge off the day’s work?

God: I select persons to show mercy.

Reporter: (Eyes flashing) So if we asked you to choose an event to do continuously for a month non-stop, it’ll be?

God: Definitely mercy.

Reporter: (Typing furiously) I see. So what kind of gifts did the friends and family of the World’s Richest Man receive last festive season, uh? (Winks)

God: Mercy.

Reporter: (Pause) Mercy.

God: Yes. Renewable mercies. The latest. Not even yet on the market.

Reporter: (Irritated) Then, if we were to turn you upside down right here and give you a vigorous shake, what would we most likely discover in your pockets?

God: (Self-conscious) Ehmm, drops of mercy.

Reporter: Your favourite game?

God: Mercyhoops.

Reporter: I guess the answer to what you will be doing as soon as this meeting is over is to show mercy.

God: Exactly…

Reporter: (snaps her iPad shut) You gotta help me out here, sir. Is there nothing new about yourself you’d love to share with the viewers besides your obvious unhealthy obsession with mercy?

God: (Thinking) Actually…

Reporter: (Excited) Yes, yes, go on.

God: I love to teach…

Reporter: (Claps) He’s a secret teacher, folks!

God: (Smiles while lost in thought) Yes, I love teaching others about mercy too. I get emotional when they show mercy. I feel connected, you know like a vast community of…

Suffice it to say I left behind quite one irritated reporter in the office today.
