I’ve noticed something quite unfortunate. When a person is very skilled, people around recommend them to the best schools or best opportunities. “You draw so well, go to that Art School.” “I loved your spaghetti, have you tried so-so Catering school?”
Even schools and employment agencies have strategies to sieve out the mediocre. Friends and family advise, “You should travel abroad.” Mentors comment, “I’ll sponsor you to Austria.”
How come no one says, “You dance so well, how about dancing for God?”
If you make the mistake of deciding to dedicate that skill or gift to God, let’s say as a missionary doctor, for instance, your surname instantly changes to Fool.
What about God? Does he not deserve the best too? The best event planners, lawyers, engineers, biologists, accountants, businessmen, and yes even writers.
Why do you look at people like those in pity? “Oh and he was the Best Graduating in Pharmacy that year but he’s now a pastor.” What does that even mean, my friend?
So God has a vacancy to fill now…why should he pick from the mediocre? Your skill is too good to use for Christ? You spent money and time to get it to its current level so why God? Let Him use the school dropouts.
If you act so well. “Why not Nollywood?”
You write expertly; “I love reading your works but why Christian writing? If you were with blah-blah, you’d have a car by now.”
If you were an employer, would you pick based on sentiments or select the best person you can find to help you achieve your goals? I say what about God?
Dear skilled person, yield your art to God.
Dear lover of God, hone your skill for God.
God needs BOTH your heart and art.
Here’s the plan: we become the best in our fields so that nobody can excuse our commitment to God as a last option. “Nobody would employ them.” “He was poor.” No, God was our first choice! I’ll be the best and fly God’s banner at the same time.
I love reading your comments. Don’t forget to drop one.💕
