Introducing, a Shameless Person
Day 10’s Theme: Trust
As I thought about what to write on trust, today’s theme, I came up blank until I remembered a past event.
A typical day in my house, especially when my two younger sisters are on a break from their boarding school can be likened to minor mental torture, pressure and incessant stress.
Today, I want to let you in on what a real typical day in the Jeremiah’s household looks like. I hope you see something on trust through this somewhat strange drama…just like I did.
Few weeks after getting my new laptop.
Afternoon. 1:06pm
(I’m on my bed when a sister comes to me).
Her: Chioma can I use your laptop?
Me: No.
Her: Please?
Me: No! You can’t.
Her: Please na?
Me: I said no madam!
She recognises that irritated tone and leaves.
6 hours later. Night
Her: Chioma, can I use your laptop?
Me: Mtcheew…For what?
Her: I did not finish watching Spider-Man that time…
Me: NO. Not today.
Her: When.
Me: (irritated) I don’t know.
Her: Just small, I won’t…
Me: No! Don’t ask me again. Go and sleep. Go and read your book or your Bible or anything. No, Precious Jeremiah. I said No.
Next day. 11 am
Her: Chioma, can I use your laptop?
Me: Shebi I said No already!臘 Don’t you have anything to do with your life? This early morning, you have already carried your Wahala.
Her: Ehya na. Please, I’ll not…
Me: I said no ehhh! Go and watch Da Vinci or whatever.
Her: Please, Chioma. There’s nothing interesting…
Me: (cuts in) See, that laptop is still new. I don’t have the strength for story for the gods this morning. I will not reply again so stand there forever if you want.
Her: (Hisses and stomps out, muttering) because you have laptop you want pride to kill you there.
Me: (shouting after her) Yes! Let the pride kill me…
Next day. 2:30pm
Me: (sees her coming) My God.
Her: Chioma, please na, I’ll be careful. I’ll even be charging it. Just let me na. Pleaseee
Me: NO.
Same day. Some 3hours later.
Her: (pokes head into the room, with pitiful face) Chiomaaaa.
Me: 臘How can I help you? Precious, how can I help you biko?!
Her: Can I use your laptop?
Me: You could but I don’t want to.
Her: (confused) Ehn?
Me: Ehn?路
Both of us: (Starts laughing)
Me: See ehn, Precious Jeremiah go and take it oo. Go! Go and leave my destiny for me in peace! (Blabs all the usual instructions…no water close by, share with your sister! If I hear any small quarrel, I’ll just come and carry it away jejely. If you say because of laptop, you allow me remind you when it’s time to wash plates, you won’t like yourself.
She: (Nodding ecstatically). Thank you!
Seconds later.
Me: Chai. Na wa o臘
Holy Spirit: In the same way, ask and you shall receive.
Me: 臘
THE END
Luke 11:8 (NIV): I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
