    Just Like Mortal Kombat

I've done some analysis and finally realised- I wasn't born a fighter. I've never been one. When some persons meet an obstacle, they become so powered up, insulted even that they push so hard till they breakthrough. But I'm more like the Boov's in "Home", Dreamworks Studio's 2015 animation that invented "running away". While my mates fought, I practised surrender.

The Celestials’ First Theatrical Experience: Watching God’s Script Come Alive

Once upon a time, an announcement was made to every corner of the Galaxy and every ear that heard it tingled and mouths fell open. The old rumour was confirmed! Soon an innumerable or definable ensemble was at the Sovereign Theatre, built exactly for this purpose. Tonight was the opening night for the drama that had been the announcement earlier that day. The stage light was already set. It was focused on Earth. God's son was nowhere in sight. Even as their eyes confirmed his absence, some still did not believe. It was that incredible. Then, indeed he was the star of the film? Beings sat, whispers started

I Spent Four Years Asking God to Speak to Me

Two years later, fear began to set in my heart. I'd been professing Christ for years now and had "nothing" to show for it. What would I have to show the world when I left the covering of "school?" Save me, Lord. Every prayer was a desperate cry to God to speak to me too. It looked like my friends were getting stronger too. They all would have something to say about "what God said...". I became worse...

Why I Refuse to Walk in Darkness.

I mean, how will I know not to go into a business because it'll collapse in 2 months? How can man tap into the eyes of God? How will I know not to allow my son to go to school that day even though he's crying that it's his best friend's birthday simply because, my spirit "does not sit well" with the idea? Only to turn on the News some hours later to hear of the bomb blast at ABC school, 3hours ago? How can I wake up from a dream

Be Careful Not to Eat Scorpions

My neighbour was just rushed to the hospital. The boy ate a scorpion thinking it was meat. I mean I can't blame him, since he's only a child plus it was dark. Please help me pray for his quick recovery. And as you mention him in your prayers, please pray for yourself too or your friends that none of you will eat scorpions in place of meat too. But I'm afraid for you.

TRUTH OR DIE? (A Short Story)

As Kingsley Ejikeme took his fifth bite of the spicy gala sausage roll in his hands, he suddenly remembered where he had seen the boy that had given him the gala before. His uncle was Ifeanyi Anyanwu, his old friend. His forty-four-year-old hands shook once but he clenched them. Could this be a coincidence? He shook off the foreboding feeling but it was too late. It had already taken root. At home, that evening, his hands paused at the eba and Onugbu soup that was his dinner. The thought of swallowing his favourite meal made his already unsettled stomach feel like emptying itself. His mind was on only one thing-…

    A Beggarly Romance Tale

Yetunde’s father was disgusted as he sized the man talking to his daughter in the market. He could not believe his eyes. Were they deceiving him? Why were they telling him that his third daughter was eating chicken with a man and blushing as they talked? The eyes were even now adding the extra information that the man she was talking to was a beggar. He made a mental note to see his optician the next day. He must be overdue for new lenses. Mr Balogun was not a fool. He looked closer. He had lived on this Earth for fifty-eight years. He knew this game he was witnessing very…

A SUNDAY THROWBACK: The First Time My Mum Caught Me Swearing.

Note: Expletives in post. One Sunday evening, some years ago, I was in the kitchen as usual preparing dinner for my family, and I was not smiling. This event was right before I entered the University so I would be around sixteen. I was feeling frustrated…as usual too- all those crazy teenage hormones throwing a party in my system, making everything seem like the whole world was against me and my happiness. There I was, vexed and murmuring about how others have cool parents but I had to be only human unfortunate enough to get stuck with slave masters. I’m daydreaming about getting into the University and running free. Who…

    Have You Seen My Baby?

From the Stables of a Backsliden Christian… What does God’s presence mean to you? How much do you value his voice? Do you still tremble in awe of him or like Peter, you’re standing afar off? I wrote this poem in May. It was a time when my life was filled with much sadness steming from my disobedience to God’s instruction and my confusion and desire to fix it all and return to the way it used to be. Funny how you may not have noticed the distance that slowly crept in between you and your saviour or you’re still where you veered off the path of righteousness. Maybe you…

The Line You Should Never Cross as You Plan Your Future

Day 13 Theme: Ambition I was in class one day when my General Studies lecturer, triggered by an event that morning decided to narrate to us all, a true-life event that happened in the same school, some years back. One that had bewildered many. It was the story of a girl from a very poor background. She got into campus, full of life and a strong desire to shed her stifling and embarrassing background. To live the life that had been denied her from birth. It was a chance to be free; to create her own story, not what life had so harshly forced on her by no fault of…
